- 1). Restart the computer. If the computer again crashes and is completely non-responsive, hold the power button to force a shutdown, then turn the system on again.
- 2). Press and release the "F8" key as soon as text appears on the screen, but before the Windows logo appears, This will open the Advanced Options Menu screen. This command should operate even if the startup screen does not list it as an option.
- 3). Press the arrow keys to navigate the menu. Highlight "Safe Mode" and press "Enter." Safe Mode turns off many non-critical processes, bypassing the malfunctioning program.
- 1). Click the Windows logo in the bottom left corner of your screen while in Safe Mode, then highlight "All Programs." In the "Accessories" folder, open "System Tools," then open "System Restore."
- 2). Choose "Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time," then click "Next." Select a restoration point in the list, making sure that point is before the computer began to malfunction. If you know which software is causing the malfunction, choose the restoration point created before the installation of that software. Click "Next" again.
- 3). Follow the onscreen instructions and wait for the System Restoration to finish. The computer will restart and display a notification of success.
- 1). Open the Control Panel in Safe Mode and select the "Administrative Tools" icon. Double-click on "Computer Management."
- 2). Click on "Device Manager" in the System Tools section. Expand the appropriate category in the right-hand frame, and double click on the device/software that you believe is causing the malfunction.
- 3). Click the "Driver" tab. Select "Uninstall" to remove the software completely, or "Roll Back Driver" to restore the device's operation to the previous version of the software.
