- 1). Find out what material forms the backsplash. Buy paint that works for the specific type of material. For example, a standard interior paint will peel off of plastic and aluminum easily.
- 2). Clean the backsplash panel with a sponge and abrasive cleaner. Allow it to air dry.
- 3). Run a line of masking tape along the top and bottom edges of the backsplash panel. Drape a drop cloth over the work surface.
- 4). Paint the backsplash panel. Use long, even strokes running horizontally. Aim to make one complete stroke along the entire panel with each pass. Allow it to dry.
- 5). Add second and third coats as necessary. Allow adequate drying time between coats.
