How To Fix a Roof Fascia

    • 1). Detach the downspout from the gutter, then unscrew the gutter and remove it from the fascia. Have someone help you with the gutter so you don't damage it.

    • 2). Slide a pry bar between the fascia and the soffit, which is the part underneath the eaves of the roof, and pry the soffit away from the end of the rafter. Start at one end of the roof and work your way down to the other end. The rafters should be about 16 inches apart.

    • 3). Pull the fascia board off the ends of the rafters.

    • 4). Measure the length of the old fascia, and cut a new piece of fascia board to match.

    • 5). Lift the new fascia board into position at the end of the rafters with the assistance of your helper, and nail it into position with two 8d finishing nails in each rafter.

    • 6). Reinstall the gutter and downspout.
