- 1). Wash an empty soup can. Dry it well.
- 2). Press air drying clay onto the outside of the soup can. Cover the sides of the soup can with clay to a thickness of 3/8 inches.
- 3). Press small shells into the wet clay. Use natural shells, or multicolored ones purchased from the store for a colorful effect. Let the clay air dry about 24 hours.
- 1). Melt paraffin wax in the top of a double boiler. You will need approximately one half cup for the average medium size seashell. You will be making three candles, so you need about 1 1/2 cups of paraffin wax.
- 2). Lay newspaper on your surface and line three seashells up. Pour the melted wax into the seashells until the shells are almost full.
- 3). Place a wick into the middle of the wax. Trim the wick to extend approximately one half inch above the wax.
- 4). Let the wax harden for about 30 minutes.
- 5). Place sand in a serving tray or glass cake tray. Place the three seashell candles in a circle in the tray. Scatter smaller seashells around the three candles.
