- 1). Use the storage space you already have in your living room. Does your living room have a closet, an entertainment center or cabinets? Clear out some of the enclosed space to make room for storing board games, craft supplies and video game equipment. Trunks and armoires have deep spaces that will allow you to keep games out of sight until you are ready to play.
- 2). Gather boxes, baskets and other containers from around your house. You might be surprised by how many containers you have that can be used to store packs of cards, art supplies and board games. If you can't locate enough containers, then consider visiting your local Goodwill store, Salvation Army store, or a store that specializes in organizing, such as The Container Store. Select boxes and baskets that can serve a dual purpose. They will look attractive in your living room while hiding games inside.
- 3). Organize boxes and baskets by category. Put all decks of cards in one basket. Put all markers and drawing paper in another. Then display the containers throughout the living room. Consider placing a few baskets on a shelf below a coffee table or line them up on the top of a free-standing bookshelf.
- 4). Stack board games in under-bed storage containers. Under-bed storage containers, which can be purchased from home goods stores, are slim and shallow. This makes them ideal for fitting underneath couches.
- 5). Consider creating a "game closet." If you have a closet in your living room, you can devote it entirely to housing board games, puzzles and larger items that otherwise might be more conspicuous, such as a child's basketball goal.
