How to Remove Carpet Glue From Wood Floors With a Drum Sander

    • 1). Remove all items off the wood floors. Equip yourself with earplugs, safety goggles and a respirator.

    • 2). Rent a drum sander. Drum sanders are available to rent for a fee at home improvement stores and tool rental centers.

    • 3). Attach four 36-grit abrasive disks to the drum sander.

    • 4). Plug the drum sander into an electrical outlet and turn the power on. Move the drum sander in a back-and-forth motion across the wood floor.

    • 5). Turn the drum sander to a 45-degree angle. Sand the entire area again in a back-and-forth motion.

    • 6). Clean the wood floors with a vacuum. Remove as much of the dust, dirt and wood shaving as possible.

    • 7). Tap any nails that are sticking up back down below the surface with a hammer.

    • 8). Replace the 36-grit disks with four 60-grit abrasive disks. Sand the floor again in the same back-and-forth motion.

    • 9). Vacuum the wood floors again to remove as much dust and debris as possible.

    • 10

Remove the 60-grit disks, replace them with 80-grit abrasive disk, and sand the entire wood floor a third time in the same back-and-forth motion as before.
