Ammonia for Stain Removal

    Wine

    • Ammonia works perfectly for breaking up wine stains. First blot up as much of the stain as possible with a dry cloth or napkin. Then mix 1 cup water and 1 tsp. ammonia in a spray bottle. Spray onto the stained area, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then blot the stain, and continue this spray-and-blot process until the stain has been removed completely.

    Lipstick

    • Ammonia also removes lipstick stains effectively. First blot up as much of the stain as possible with a dry cloth. Then add water and continue blotting. Next soak a cotton ball in ammonia and continue blotting the lipstick stain until is has been removed completely. When the stain has been fully removed, wipe clean with a damp cloth to remove any remaining ammonia or lipstick residue.

    Grease

    • Grease stains can also be effectively removed with use of ammonia. First blot up as much of the stain as possible with a dry cloth or napkin. Then soak the tip of a cloth in ammonia and blot over the stain. Continue until the stain has been removed entirely. Alternately, place any grease-stained clothing in the washing machine on a cold water cycle and add your normal laundry detergent as well as 1 cup of nonsudsing ammonia.
