- 1). Remove all items from the basement that you can and temporarily store them in another room. Put down drop cloths and erect a ladder. Brush or roll foam adhesive onto the ceiling. Affix acoustic-damping tiles to the adhesive and let dry to secure the tiles into place.
- 2). Apply another coat of foam adhesive to the walls. Tack the acoustic-damping tiles to the walls as you did with the ceiling. Remove the drop cloths and ladder.
- 3). Roll out large area rugs on the basement floor, covering the floor completely. This will provide a no-slip surface. Place sound-deadening mats over the area rugs from wall to wall. The floor will now absorb a great deal of sound and reduce any echoing.
- 4). Line each side of the staircase with carpet tacking. Secure it into place with a nail gun. Roll carpet padding onto the staircase, conforming to the shape of the stairs. Install carpeting over the padding by stretching it between and up the stairs.
