- 1). Run a carbon water filter under warm tap water. Continue running the water over the filter until all traces of carbon dust, or black specks, are removed.
- 2). Fill a bowl deep enough and wide enough to hold and submerge the carbon water filter with equal parts hot water and vinegar. Place a used, dirty carbon water filter in the mixture. Allow the filter to soak in the mixture for 10 minutes.
- 3). Remove the filter from the vinegar mixture. Rinse the filter under cool tap water to remove all traces of vinegar.
- 4). Allow the filter to air-dry.
