- 1). Use a graphics program, such as GIMP, a free program, or Photoshop, to make a greeting card image. Choose a program that runs on your operating system. Open up the program to a blank screen and start to draw the image. Also use your graphic software to size and enhance photographs that you possess. Save the images to your hard drive.
- 2). Download a blank greeting card template from the Internet. You can find templates for your card on many sites. Make sure the template is free or in the common domain so that you do not violate copyright laws when you create your card. Open the card in your word processing program, such as OpenOffice or Microsoft Word, and save the template to your hard drive.
- 3). Insert the graphics that you created into the greeting card template. Write an appropriate thank you or quotation to the recipient. Save the card under a different file name to your hard drive and print a test card on regular paper. Print the final card on cardstock that is at least 160 g/m². Fold, sign and mail the card.
- 1). Open your blank greeting card template in your word processing program and save the template to your hard drive as a different file than the original document.
- 2). Add any digital graphics that you wish on the template and save the card to your computer. Print the thank-you card on cardstock. Fold the template into a standard card shape.
- 3). Embellish the cardstock with colored markers, pencils, glitter, ribbons or other decorations. Be careful to not overburden the cardstock with glue and material so that the paper does not tear or that the card is too expensive to mail to your recipient. Sign the card with an appropriate thank you and your signature.
- 1). Open a photograph in your graphics program. Crop the picture to a desired size. Use filters to manipulate the image if you wish to add special effects.
- 2). Add text to the card.
- 3). Save the card in an image format like .jpg. Print the card and send it to your recipient.
