- 1). Place elbow and knee pads on, as well as a long-sleeved shirt and dust mask. Crawl into the cavity space with one piece of insulation. Be sure to place your weight on top of the ceiling joists, and not on the drywall between them.
- 2). Place the insulation, paper side down, on top of the drywall area between the first two joists. Start at the farthest end of the cavity area and work back. Push it down into place so it rests on top of the drywall, and is snug against the joists on both sides. Carefully crawl backwards out of the cavity area, for the second piece of insulation. Cut the pieces of insulation to the required length with scissors, and out of the cavity area. Continue in like fashion until all the ceiling is covered with insulation. Take several breaks, and stretch if muscles become tight.
- 3). Place a ladder at one corner of the room below the ceiling that needs to be insulated. Measure and cut the first length of insulation needed for the first section between the ceiling joists. Starting at one end, hold the insulation overhead, and push it, paper side down, between the two ceiling joists. Staple the lips of the paper on each side of the insulation to the sides of the ceiling joists, every 8 inches. The more staples installed, the easier it will become to hold the insulation in place. Continue in like fashion by moving the ladder when necessary, and measuring, cutting and installing new insulation, until the entire ceiling is insulated.
