How to Turn Stereo Mixer On in Vista

    • 1). Locate the speaker icon in the bottom right corner of your screen near the clock.

    • 2). Right-click the icon and click "Recording Devices." Vista's "Sound" window opens. This window displays your computer's playback and recording devices. You may see one or more microphone icons and a "Line In" icon.

    • 3). Right-click a blank area in the window. A drop-down menu opens to reveal several options.

    • 4). Click the "Show Disabled Devices" option to put a check mark by that option. If your sound card supports stereo mix, a "Stereo Mix" icon will appear in the window with the other icons. If you see the "Stereo Mix" icon, proceed to the next step. Otherwise, your sound card does not support stereo mix.

    • 5). Click the "Stereo Mix" icon to put a green check mark by that option. This tells Vista to use stereo mix as your primary recording device.
