- 1). Cut off the legs of several old pairs of blue jeans. Cut out the seams, hems and any rivets. Spread the remaining material flat and press with an iron.
- 2). Cut fabric into 1 inch wide strips. When you have cut all the fabric, overlap the short ends of the strips and sew across, linking all the pieces to form one long strip. Wind the strips into a ball. This will make working with the fabric easier and keep the strips from getting tangled.
- 3). Make a slip knot and slip the loop over the end of a large crochet hook. Using the fabric strip like yarn, chain ten stitches. Chain one stitch back into the first stitch, to form a loop. Chain two, then double crochet in each stitch around the loop.
- 4). Chain one, double crochet into next stitch. Repeat this around the loop. Continue in this manner until your rug is the size you want it to be.
- 5). Slip the last stitch off your crochet hook. Cut the fabric strip, leaving about 2 inches. Thread the end of the strip into the loop you just removed from your crochet hook and pull tight to knot. Tuck the free end into your rug.
