- 1). Use a pencil eraser to remove small stains as they appear. You can make a big job much smaller if you remove the stains as soon as you notice them.
- 2). Clean light stains with vinegar or baking soda. Apply diluted white vinegar or a paste of water and baking soda onto the grout. Use a stiff bristle brush to clean the grout.
- 3). If tile is used as a backsplash in the kitchen, it will probably have a build-up of grease and food stains. Spray a de-greaser on the grout and let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes. Use a stiff bristle brush to remove the buildup.
- 4). Dilute chlorine bleach with water to clean mold and mildew on grout in the bathroom. Make sure to test a small area of the grout before you begin, since bleach may leach the pigment out of the grout and discolor it.
- 5). Mix powdered oxygen bleach with water and lightly apply the solution to floor tiles, allowing it to pool over the floor grout so it will penetrate. Let mixture stand for 1 hour before mopping.
