- 1). Restart your iPhone. Many iPhone functionality problems can resolve themselves with a simple reboot, and since restarting is the simplest, least invasive troubleshooting method, try this first. Hold down the button at the top of your iPhone on the right side, known as the "Sleep/Wake" button, for several seconds until the screen changes and a slider appears, along with words "Slide to Power Off." Place your finger on the arrow and slide it to the right, shutting down your iPhone. Hold down "Sleep/Wake" again to restart.
- 2). Reset your iPhone. Resetting is similar to restarting, but can remedy more serious problems such as frozen applications when restarting alone fails. Hold down the "Sleep/Wake" button just as you did when restarting, but also hold down the "Home" button (directly beneath your screen) at the same time. After a few seconds, the screen will turn gray and the Apple logo will appear, at which time you can release both buttons.
- 3). Restore your iPhone. If resetting still fails to remedy your iPhone issue, connect the device to your computer using your iPhone USB sync cable and open the iTunes software. Click your "iPhone" icon in the left column and select the "Restore" button. This process will erase your iPhone, but will also remove any malicious content or bad coding.
