Hi. My name is Christina Gavenda, and today we're going to talk about what kind of thread to use when darning socks. You can use a variety of thread to darn your socks. You just have to choose the right kind of thread for the type of sock you're darning. Socks just like any garment come in a variety of materials. I have a pair of wool socks here and a pair of cotton socks. You want and try and figure out what your sock is made out of before you decide on the type of thread that you use. For this cotton sock you should use cotton thread that matches the weight of the fabric of the sock. It's also important to choose the right color of thread. If you don't happen to have a light enough weight thread in your thread box, embroidery floss. Pulling it apart using just one thread of the embroidery floss is a good weight for socks. When darning wool socks you can use cotton thread to darn them. However if you have wool that matches your sock at home, even if it's not the right weight that can be a good idea to use. This wool yarn is too heavy to darn the sock with. But if I pull apart the wool yarn, and here I have a few threads that I can either use 2 or 1 to darn my sock with, matching the weight of the yarn. Just because a sock has a hole on the bottom of the foot doesn't mean that you have to toss it out, especially if it's a high quality sock. You can darn it on your own with just a few simple materials. Thanks for watching.
