- 1). Measure the area where the marble is to be placed with a tape measure. Make sure this measurement is as accurate as possible so the marble can be laid easily. It is best to measure the area two or three times to avoid mistakes.
- 2). Rent a wet tile saw from a local hardware store. It uses a diamond-edged blade and a water pump to cut through the marble without overheating the saw.
- 3). Mark on the marble where it needs to be cut using masking tape. Like with the initial measuring, it is best to check where the cut will be made two or three times.
- 4). Place the marble on the cutting platform of the saw so the area to be cut is located under the blade. Turn on the water supply and the blade, and cut through the tile at a constant speed to avoid leaving rough edges.
- 5). Cut a bevel onto the marble edges using the same saw with the blade set at a 45-degree angle.
- 6). Sand the cut edges of the marble and paint on a layer of clear lacquer to add a layer of protection.
- 7). Clean the area where the marble will be placed to remove all dust and debris that will stop the adhesive bonding properly.
- 8). Apply a layer of thinset using a trowel to the area where the marble will be laid and to the underside of the marble.
- 9). Place the marble in the required area and move around so it settles into the thinset and leave to cry overnight. Avoid walking on the threshold at this time.
