- 1). Download the Redsn0w 0.9.5 jailbreak application and save it to your desktop. The application is free (avoid any sites asking for money) and can be found below in Resources.
- 2). Connect the iPhone to your computer.
- 3). Double-click the RedsnOw application.
- 4). Select your iOS 4.0 firmware. This is a .IPSW file located at "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Compuer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates"
- 5). Select "Install Cydia" and any other options you'd like. Click "Next."
- 6). Turn the phone off by holding down the "Power" button (on top). Slide the red slider to the right when it appears to power down the device.
- 7). Follow the on-screen instructions to power the device back on, putting the phone into "DFU" recovery mode. You will need to hold the "Power" button and "Home" button simultaneously for 10 seconds. Immediately after 10 seconds is up, you must let go of the "Power" button, continuing to hold the "Home" button until "DFU" mode is detected. This may take a few tries as it requires precise timing. The Redsn0w application will alert you if the phone has not entered the "DFU" mode. If entered successfully, the jailbreak process will start immediately.
- 8). Click "Finish" when the process is completed.
