- 1). Rotate the clickwheel clockwise on clickwheel iPods such as the iPod nano, iPod mini and iPod classic. Clickwheel rotation has different functions depending what you are doing with the iPod, but the clickwheel automatically adjusts the volume being played through earphones when a track is playing.
- 2). Press the "Increase Volume" button on the upper-left side of an iPod touch or iPhone. The "Increase Volume" is the top button and the "Decrease Volume" button is the lower button.
- 3). Press the top of the fixed wheel on iPods with a wheel interface without rotation controls. Press the button once to increase the volume one step, or press and hold the button to increase the volume continuously.
- 4). Press the "Increase Volume" button on your headset controls when using an iPod nano or iPod shuffle without built-in volume controls, or when using a third-party headset with three-button controls. On these controls, the middle button is used to pause playback or change tracks, the top button increases the volume and the bottom button decreases the volume.
- 5). Check the Volume Limit setting in your iPod's settings if the maximum volume is too soft. If this has been set too low, increase the maximum volume or remove it entirely to increase playback volume.
