How to Fix a Bent BMX Rim

    • 1). Turn the bike upside-down so it stands on the handlebars and the seat. Spin the wheel and take note of exactly where it is bent. You will notice that the tire will not spin completely around or will brush against the brake pads.

    • 2). Mark the area where the rim is bent using a dark marker. This will ensure that you fix the whole area that is damaged. Not doing so can cause you to miss some of the damage that will begin to affect your inner tube and tire.

    • 3). Use pliers to adjust the spokes on the rim. Turning the spoke to the right will tighten the spoke while turning to the left will loosen the spokes. Continue adjusting each spoke in the bent area to pull the rim back to its original shape.

    • 4). Spin the wheel to see if it still catches on the brake pads and does not turn smoothly. Check for any punctures in the tire. Turn the bike back over and test ride it to ensure that the wheel turns as it should.

    • 5). Visit a local bike repair shop if the bent rim will not adjust or continues to malfunction. The shop can either fix the problem for a fee or replace the item with a new rim.
