- 1). Place the lucky bamboo stalk in the center of a wide-based vase or jar.
- 2). Fill the bottom of the vase with pebbles or marbles until the stalk will stand upright without holding it with your hand.
- 3). Add 2 to 3 inches of water to the vase. The more water you add the larger the roots of the stalk will grow.
- 4). Place the lucky bamboo in an area that receives indirect natural light. Change the water in the vase every two weeks.
- 5). Divide the stalk in two or more sections when the stalk grows too tall for the vase. Use a serrated knife to cut the stalk where two segments of the stalk are joined. Either end of the cut stalk can then be placed in the water to root.
