What Is Bird-X Bird Repellent?

    Gel

    • Bird Proof Gel is a bird repellent to use inside or outside where "nuisance birds" like pigeons, starlings and house sparrows like to hang out or roost. It is safe to handle and non-poisonous. Bird Proof Gel lasts for up to a year in most weather conditions. When applied to any landing surface, including ledges or signs, it leaves a transparent, tacky, slimy substance that birds don't like. The gel is easy to apply, using a standard caulking gun, and is inexpensive.

    Liquid

    • Bird Proof Liquid is a non-toxic repellent similar to the gel, but is designed for applying to interior struts, girders, beams or pipes. Each gallon treats 120 square feet. The liquid can be applied with a paintbrush or with a power or hand sprayer. Bird Proof Liquid can also be used on trees, shrubs, bushes and vines. A gallon will cover one 5-inch diameter tree or six 3-foot shrubs.

    Agricultural

    • Bird-X also sells "taste aversion" bird-repellent products for agricultural use. Farmers use BirdShield to spray on crops, orchard trees and fields to make the vegetables, fruits or grains taste unappealing to birds. BirdShield is a biodegradable liquid made from methyl anthranilate, which comes from Concord grapes, and has been used to flavor candies and sodas for decades. BirdShield is also used to keep birds off golf courses, fountains and statues.

    Wizard

    • Bird-X offers an online Problem Solver wizard. The wizard first asks "Which type of bird is causing the problems?" with pictures to help you identify the bird. The second question is, "Where is the problem?" and the third is "Size of the Area?" Once you choose the answers, a "Get Best Products" button appears; hit that, and a page appears with "the three best products" Bird-X has to solve your problem.

    Caution

    • Bird-X's products are all non-toxic, but interior and exterior surfaces must be cleaned before applying repellents. And cleaning up the mess birds left behind could be hazardous to your health. Bird droppings can spread disease, and it is vital that anybody in contact with bird droppings wear proper protective clothing, gloves, safety eyewear and when necessary, a respirator. Check with experts to see how much protection is needed before taking on any bird clean-up project.
