- 1). Clean your farm equipment thoroughly to remove dirt and grime so that potential buyers can see that you took good care of it.
- 2). Place it in the sun, if possible, and take photos of it.
- 3). Compare prices to determine a good asking price for your equipment. Look through the classifieds as well as online selling locations to check out what similar equipment sells for.
- 4). Submit the photo, along with a short advertisement, to the classified section of the newspaper. List all the important details, such as what it is, asking price, age, horsepower (if it applies) and any special features. Also supply contact information.
- 5). Submit the same advertisement information and photo to Web sites that help in selling items. This could be Craigs List, eBay or other sites, or you could use a more specialized site such as ForFarmers.
- 6). Look through the wanted section in the classifieds to see if anyone is looking for what you are selling.
- 7). Place the item where it can be seen from the road, if possible, and place a sign nearby advertising it. Sometimes a neighbor or passer-by might be interested in it. Make sure the item is secure from theft while you are away from the home.
- 8). Try an equipment auction. Contact an action company that specializes in equipment. They will be able to gather many buyers to a single location because of the quantity of items that will be for sale. They are also able to advertise to a larger market. You will have to pay them a percentage of the sale price, but if you are trying to sell the item quickly, this might be your best bet.
