- 1). Draw the outline of the grapes onto the canvas or paper in pencil. Grapes typically come in bunches that look vaguely similar to a triangle, but they also can take more of a rectangle shape. If you don't know what shape to use, use a real bunch of grapes as a prop and look at it as you paint.
- 2). Fill the grape circles in with the darkest color. Start from the outside edges and draw a circular shape with the dark color. Grapes rarely have flat edges, so pay special care to your brush stroke so you make rounded edges.
- 3). Apply a lighter color to the middle of the grapes to create a rounded effect. Pay special attention to how the light hits the grapes and use a combination of colors to capture the lighting. Apply this color while the base coat is still somewhat wet.
- 4). Brush a small amount of linseed oil into the paint and allow the paint to dry. This create a semi-glazed surface, which brings the grapes to life.
- 5). Mix a light color of paint, such as a pale purple or white, into the base color of paint. Remove most of the paint from the brush by brushing it against a paper towel. Brush the light color over the brightest areas of the grapes. Gently dab the brush or smooth it over the grape shapes.
- 6). Darken the shadowed areas of grape with a little black paint added to the base color to complete the grape dimension.
