- 1). Add 3 to 4 inches of compost to the planting area and mix it into the top 12 inches of soil. If you have heavy, clay soil, add 4 inches of coarse sand and combine it with the soil.
- 2). Plant the tuber 6 inches deep, cover it with soil and water the area well. Keep the soil moist at all times.
- 3). Fertilize the amorphophallus once a month with a 15-30-15 fertilizer, at the rate suggested on the package. Discontinue fertilizing when the plant goes dormant and resume when it begins active growth.
- 4). Allow the amorphophallus to die back in the winter. The tuber can be left in the soil if it is buried at least 6 inches deep and covered with a 5- to 6-inch layer of mulch. Remove the mulch in the spring after the danger of frost has passed.
