- Removing paint from carpet is easiest while the paint is still wet. Form a barrier of towels around the paint splotch on the carpet. Pour water onto the spot. Blot the spot up quickly with the dry towels. Continue this process until the towel comes away clean from the spot. This could take 10 minutes or longer to complete. Once the towels remains clean, use a carpet cleaner to soak the remaining paint and color pigment from the spot on the carpet.
- Wet the paint and allow it to soak for about 10 minutes. Blot up any paint with towels to see if any color pigments come away from the fibers. Wet the area again and scrub it with a toothbrush vigorously to break the paint clumps apart. Continue to scrub and blot until the paint is removed. Use a wire brush to comb the fibers of the carpet to remove any remaining paint particles. Allow the area to dry, then vacuum as normal to reshape the carpet.
- After the carpet dries after the previous cleaning method, some paint particles may still remain. If any particles or clumps are still present, you can cut the fibers back to remove the paint spot or make it much less noticeable. Take a small pair of hair cutting scissors or use nail clippers to carefully trim away the painted fibers one at a time. After clipping one or two fibers, step back and inspect the area to ensure that the bald spot is not more noticeable than the paint before continuing.
- Spray the paint splotch with an automotive lubricant. Allow the lubricant to sit on the fibers for about 10 minutes. Rub the area vigorously with a rag to remove as much of the paint as possible. If some paint remains, spray the area again and allow it to soak. Repeat the process three time. Loosen any remaining paint with a stiff bristle brush. Clean the area with a carpet cleaning solution to remove any remaining pigment from the carpet.
