How to Replace a Throttle Position Sensor in a 1992 Mazda MPV

    • 1). Turn the engine off. Open the hood. Move to the driver's side of the compartment to find the throttle-position sensor. It's mounted by the intake manifold on the throttle body.

    • 2). Use your pliers to detach the negative battery connection from the post. This is a necessary safety precaution when you are working with electrical parts.

    • 3). Unplug the wiring harness from the back of the throttle-position sensor. Look closely at the sensor to find the two screws. Remove them with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the sensor off.

    • 4). Attach the new sensor in its place. Make sure it's in the same position as the old sensor. Line up the two holes on the sensor with the screw mounting holes. Insert the screws. Tighten them well.

    • 5). Plug the harness into the new throttle-position sensor. Attach the negative battery connection to the battery post. Tighten the nut to to secure it.
