- 1). Sketch an oval in the upper half of your picture to represent the guide for Artemis' head. Depending on how you want this goddess to be pictured, the height of the head will most likely be larger than the width. Use light pencil strokes until you are confident in the basic proportions of this rough draft.
- 2). Create the chest and torso of Artemis using a rectangular shape underneath the head. Connect this piece to the head with two short, vertical lines. Round out the top of the chest shape to create the shoulders.
- 3). Connect slender ovals to the shoulder blades of this Greek goddess to create the upper portions of her arms. Draw a small circle at the bottom of each of these limb parts to assist you in creating the exact bend at the elbows. Draw a secondary oval that connects to this circular joint to represent the bottom parts of the arms.
- 4). Draw the legs as they bend into the position that is pictured in your reference guide. Use slender ovals to construct the basic shapes of the upper and lower halves of these legs. Create these legs with light pencil strokes until you are confident in the basic shapes.
- 5). Divide Artemis' face into four equal quadrants, bisecting the head with one horizontal line and one vertical to help you create her beautiful facial features. Draw small, football-shaped eyes alongside the horizontal guideline, ensuring that these two are proportionally placed on the face.
- 6). Draw a rope-like feature on top of this goddess' hair to create the hairstyle of an ancient Greek character. Sketch out short, vertical lines above this to create the rest of the hair as it is pulled tight behind her head.
- 7). Sketch a slight vertical line between each of the eyes to represent the nose of this mythical woman. Round out the bottom of this nose and add small ovals to create the nostrils. This facial feature should be drawn slim and petite, ensuring that it is proportional with the two eyes.
- 8). Use short, horizontal lines to create the mouth of Artemis, placing these directly underneath the nose. Make sure you take note of the exact curvature of these lines, creating a realistic rendition of the mouth. Chisel the chin to give this goddess a more refined bone structure.
- 9). Use short lines to create the creased texture of Artemis' upper garments. If the upper half of her clothing calls for a diagonal, toga shape, then use light pencil strokes to construct this ancient Greek clothing style.
- 10
Make sure the lines that move create Artemis' arms are smoothed out while each of her fists are clenched in a circular shape. Draw the D-shaped bow that Artemis is holding, ensuring that the oval-shaped fingers are clasping tightly to the staff and bow. - 11
Shape out each of the legs to create the mythical elegance of this particular Greek woman. If there is fabric over any of the lower body, include short lines to create the creased texture of this area as well. Create the slender feet with rounded, triangular shapes at the bottom of each of these legs, making sure that they are proportional to the legs in this particular position. - 12
Trace over all intended pencil marks with an ink pen to create a clean and bold look in your drawing. Be careful not to trace over any of the guidelines or smear any of the ink during this process, though. Let the ink dry, then completely erase any remaining pencil marks from the page.
