- 1). Use paper towels to clean up any fresh paint. Do not spread the paint around on the floor with the towels. Blot the paint carefully to remove it from the hardwood floors. If the paint dries, you will need to try a different method of removal.
- 2). Combine liquid soap with warm water. Place two to three drops of a liquid dish detergent into a bowl, and fill it with warm water. Apply the soap to the area, and then use a non-abrasive object to remove the paint. Use a window scraper, an old compact disc or the edge of a credit card to scrape the paint. Use paper towels to soak up the soap and water. Use a different removal technique if the paint remains.
- 3). Place ¾ cups of rubbing alcohol and ¼ cup of lemon juice in a bowl. Apply the solution directly to the paint. Use the edge of a dull object like a butter knife to scrape the paint spot. Dip an old toothbrush into the solution, and scrub the area carefully to avoid scratching the wood. Continue to scrape and scrub until the paint disappears.
- 4). Use paint thinner if you cannot remove the paint. Follow the directions on the container. You may need to refinish your floors because the paint thinner can strip away the finish on the wood.
