- The Nova was a well-designed sports car. It was relatively lightweight and easily took to the larger muscle car engines of the late 1960s. The SS, or Super Sport, package was a natural for the Nova, giving it a flashy appearance. The 1972 version was more about appearance though, since the muscle car era was officially gone.
- The SS package included special rally wheels with white-letter tires. It had racing stripes and a special paint package with the "SS" logo, as well as a darkened grill that gave it a sports look. It also had a 350-cubic-inch V-8 engine that provided some power, but nothing like the power it had a couple years earlier.
- The SS package in the 1972 Nova came with an automatic or a manual three- or four-speed transmission. The 350-cubic-inch V-8 engine had 200 horsepower and a four-barrel carburetor. It had a top speed of 114 miles per hour and could go from zero to 60 in 7.6 seconds.
