- 1). Use an orbital sander with adjustable speeds to sand the surface of the tiles that need to be refinished. Sand the tiles with a coarse-grit sandpaper (under 100 grit) and use a low-speed setting on the orbital sander.
- 2). Sand the surface of the tiles that you just sanded using the orbital sander with adjustable speed. Use a low-speed setting and medium-grit sandpaper (between 100 and 200 grit). Sand the surface of the tiles with the medium-grit sandpaper until the grit marks left by the coarse-grit sandpaper are eliminated. The medium-grit sandpaper will leave grit marks, but they will be more shallow than those left by the coarse-grit sandpaper.
- 3). Sand the surface of the tiles that you just sanded, again using the orbital sander with adjustable speed. Use a fine-grit sandpaper (over 200 grit) and a low-speed setting on the sander. Sand the surface of the tiles until you have eliminated all of the grit marks left by the medium-grit sandpaper. The fine-grit sandpaper might leave grit marks, but they will be very shallow. Repeat this step using sandpaper with finer and finer grit until there are no grit marks left on the surface of the tiles.
- 4). Use a rag or towel to apply a coat of sealer to the surface of the tile evenly. Allow the sealer to dry. Reapply sealer to the surface of the tiles until you have the sheen you want on the surface of the tiles.
