- 1). Clean the subfloor to remove any dirt, debris or adhesive remaining from previous installations. Leftover adhesive could prevent the new adhesive from properly bonding with the subfloor and create loose tiles.
- 2). Spread adhesive onto half of the floor with a paint roller or a notched trowel. Use the appropriate adhesive for the tiles such as vinyl tile adhesive for vinyl tiles or cork flooring adhesive for cork tiles.
- 3). Let the adhesive dry until it becomes clear. This could take one hour or several hours depending on the temperature and humidity in the room. The adhesive will no longer feel sticky to the touch when it is ready.
- 4). Press the first tile onto the floor and tap it gently with a rubber mallet. Continue to install tiles right next to each other and tap them with the mallet until you have covered the half of the room where the adhesive was spread.
- 5). Spread adhesive over the second half of the floor and allow it to dry.
- 6). Install the remaining tiles on top of the dry adhesive and use a mallet to gently tap them down into place.
