The Cheapest Way to Sound Proof a Room

    • 1). Use double-sided tape, spray adhesive or a comparable adhesive substance to adhere sheets of cork to the wall. Though this stands out from the wall, you can wallpaper over it.

    • 2). Take down your hollow door. Hollow doors are typically used for interior doors, but they are not very soundproof. Replace it with a heavier, solid wood door to block out sound.

    • 3). Slide a door sweep onto the bottom of the door. These are pads that attach to the bottom of a door and fill the crack between the door and the floor. Though commonly used for retaining heat and blocking out drafts, they are also effective for soundproofing.

    • 4). Seal cracks in windows and door frames with weather-stripping foam tape to limit the amount of sound that escapes.

    • 5). Lay down a thick foam rubber pad, especially under objects that transmit sound. For example, put a stereo speaker or a subwoofer on a 2-inch-thick pad to absorb some of its sound before it goes down through your floor.
