- 1). Tie a length of 20-pound test or heavier monofilament line to a treble hook with a Palomar knot. Form the knot by feeding line through the hook eye so that you have 6 to 7 inches extending through the eye. Turn the line and feed it back through the eye, forming a loop in the line to the side of the hook.
- 2). Continue forming the Palomar knot by holding the free end of the line beside the main line, forming a double line. Tie an overhand knot with the loop and double line. Pull the loop down and around the bends of the treble hook. Moisten the knot and pull it tightly down.
- 3). Cut a 6-inch length of surgical tubing in the color of your choice with a pair of scissors. Cut a 2-inch angle in one end so that the tubing tapers to a point.
- 4). Slide the tubing onto the monofilament leader with the tapered end going on first. Work the tubing down so the tapered end is positioned over and extends past the hooks.
- 5). Slide a bullet-head weight onto the monofilament leader and down to the end of the surgical tubing. Position the weight with the point facing away from the tubing. Pull the surgical tubing back toward the treble hooks and form a simple overhand knot to act as a stopper for the bullet-head weight.
- 6). Slide the weight down to rest against the knot and pull the tubing up onto the bullet-head weight. Arrange the surgical tubing so that one-half of the bullet head weight is covered by the tubing.
- 7). Double the line 5 to 6 inches from the tip of the bullet weight and form a simple double-overhand loop to be used for attaching to a main fishing line.
