- 1). Choose a time of year when crawfish begin to emerge from their holes along banks and from beneath structure. Use crawfish baits in early spring when waters begin to warm and warmer rains fall.
- 2). Look for areas with runoff coming into a stream, pond, river or lake. Observe the water clarity and look for muddy waters that indicate potentially warm runoff.
- 3). Tie a crawfish crank bait lure onto the end of the fishing line with an Improved Clinch knot. Moisten the knot before pulling it down tight and trim excess line with scissors.
- 4). Cast the crawfish crank bait into the water and crank it down to just above the bottom of the lake, pond or river bottom. Raise and lower the rod tip to impart a natural motion to the crawfish crank bait as it moves through the water. Pause the lure periodically and then resume the retrieve.
- 5). Keep the rod tip pointed slightly upward while fishing. Raise the rod tip when a fish strikes and reel down on the line to set the hook. Keep the rod tip up and the line tight while reeling in the fish.
