• Crabapple trees are vulnerable to multiple diseases. Apple scab is one such disease that affects the leaves of the crabapple tree during the spring. As the disease progresses it moves from the leaves of the tree to the apples themselves. This disease can be controlled by applying fungal insecticides. Fireblight is another disease that affects the crabapple tree. Fireblight is caused by the Erwinia amylovora bacterium. This disease causes the death of new terminal shoots in late spring or early summer. Frog-eye leaf spot disease is a fungal disease that causes small dark brown spots or dead leaf tissue. Frog-eye leaf spot can have a minimal impact or result in heavy defoliation of the tree.
