- The 4th generation of the iPod Nano has all of the classic features that have made the iPod so popular over the years. The Nano comes with a touch sensitive click-wheel, allowing the user to scroll though albums and songs with the move of a finger. Also included are the song features, like random or repeat play.
- The iPod Nano also includes some of the newer iPod features, like the Cover Flow album selection. This gives you large pictures of the available albums sitting side by side. By scrolling with the click-wheel, you can flip through all the albums on the iPod on a horizontal plane. Also featured on some iPod models, including the Nano, is the Genius feature. When this feature is turned on, the iPod will take the songs you listen to and create play lists using other songs that are similar. The official Apple iPod website says of the Genius feature that "it's like having your own highly intelligent, personal DJ."
- While it shares characteristics with other iPods, the iPod Nano has its own distinct features. The 4th Generation iPod Nano has motion sensor technology that is able to determine how the iPod is being held: It will adjust the screen's image accordingly. The motion sensor will also adjust a photo depending on the iPod's orientation. Photos thset in landscape framing are best viewed with the iPod rotated onto its side. The motion sensor is also used in the playing of certain Nano games. You can play some games by merely moving or shaking the iPod. You can also change songs with a quick shake of the iPod. You are still able to change tracks the old-fashioned way, but the new motion-sensor technology allows you to give the iPod a shake to shuffle songs.
