Redwood Tree Needle Structure

Redwood Needles

  • The needles of coast redwoods are short, typically an inch or less in length. They tend to be flat with pointed tips and have a soft, delicate feel. On top they are rich dark green; underneath, they support two parallel white bands. The leaves of the dawn redwood are similar though often lighter in hue and in autumn they turn a burnt red-orange before dropping.
