- 1). Cut one piece of material, rectangular in shape that is 14-inches wide and 11-inches tall. Cut out two rectangular pieces that are 3.5-inches wide by 11-inches tall. Choose material that fits the personality of the recipient. Men may prefer a sturdy fabric or Naugahyde. Women may prefer something pretty, colorful and quilted.
- 2). Turn the larger piece so that it is face up and turn the two smaller pieces so that they are face down. Place the smaller pieces on top of the larger rectangle, one on each end of the larger piece. Pin the pieces together only on the side. Leave the top and bottom loose.
- 3). Stitch the two seams together with 1/2-inch seam allowances so that you now have a rectangle that is 19 inches by 11 inches. Press the seams open flat.
- 4). Fold the edge of the material 1/4 inch toward the wrong side of the cover and then fold it over again and pin securely. Do this all around the edge, taking care so that the corners lay flat.
- 5). Sew the edges down all around the cover and press flat.
- 6). Turn the two panels back onto the cover so that right sides are together and pin together at the top and bottom.
- 7). Stitch the top and bottom seams of the cover ears. Turn the cover so that the cover ears are flat on the cover and iron.
- 8). Insert the Bible into the cover or proceed to make the optional bookmarks.
- 1). Cut four 10-inch lengths of lace, ribbon or fabric trim for bookmarks. Lay the trim so that the pieces are stacked smoothly and evenly and pin together at the top.
- 2). Sew across the top of the trim to that they are all joined.
- 3). Lay the cover down so that the right side faces up. Pin the bookmarks in the exact middle of the top side.
- 4). Sew the bookmarks to the cover.
- 5). Insert the Bible into the cover and place the bookmarks between pages of the Bible.
