Ideas for Home, Family & Personal Enrichment

    Family Home Evening Packet Swap

    • A family home evening packet swap allows the sisters to prepare one family home evening lesson and walk away with several more. Each sister who wants to participate should sign up with a lesson topic. Each participant will create a lesson packet on the topic. It should contain a basic lesson outline that includes songs, a scripture, a story, pictures or visual aids for the lesson, an activity related to the lesson and a suggestion for the refreshments. Each person who signs up will need to produce a packet for each person in the group. Everyone will meet and exchange packets and come home with several different ready-to-teach lesson plans.

    Exercise Group

    • Many sisters in the Relief Society are looking for support to improve their health and exercise on a regular basis. Planning one or two exercise groups can provide a way for the sisters to support each other and an inexpensive alternative to joining a gym. One option is to have a walking group that meets on a regular basis to walk outside when the weather is good. Another option is to schedule early morning exercise classes. These can take place in the gym at the church building. A convenient time would be during early morning seminary so moms who drive their kids to seminary can participate. It will also allow other sisters to come before their husbands have to leave for work.

    Emergency Preparedness

    • A meeting on emergency preparedness can help the sisters with their food storage and preparedness goals. The meeting should offer several classes that range from getting started with food storage and preparedness to more advanced classes. One class should focus on preparing an emergency kit and storing two weeks of food. One class should focus on storing and rotating your food long-term. Another class should teach financial management and preparedness that can help them save a year's salary and plan for retirement.

    Dinner and Service Auction

    • A dinner allows the sisters a chance to socialize and build friendships. A service auction creates the opportunity for the sisters to help each other. Each sister brings an item or service to be bid on. The items may include homemade bread or jam, hair clips or blankets. Any craft that the sister made works. The service could be anything that the sister is willing to do to help someone else. This could be babysitting, tutoring, painting a house or cooking a meal for the family.
