- One idea which needs some work and preparation is the headless person. Basically, you want to walk around at a party with your head in the hands of what looks like your decapitated body. But you have to think about a few things -- how you can stay comfortable and how the effect can be achieved. The first thing is to get hold of an old tailors’ dummy. Take the head off and put a load of cheap imitation blood all around the neck. You also could paint up some paper to look like neck gore and stuff it into the hole where the head was. Then, make some shoulder supports, cut a hole in the chest of the dummy where your head will go and then cover the whole thing with some old baggy and large clothes. Get someone to help you put it on.
- It’s easy to make a witch costume. You can just get some old black clothes, or even some black material, from a thrift store. Then get some different material and stuffing -- like cotton wool or even paper. All you need then is some cardboard and an old broom. You use the cardboard to make a witches hat, which you cover with black material or just paint, and the paper or cotton wool to stuff under your clothes to make yourself look haggardly and old. Using your imagination and a bit of adhesive, put it all together and presto -- you’re a Halloween witch.
- Makeup paints and other accessories can be called a part of your costume, especially if you use them to blend what you are wearing into an overall theme. For a scary effect, paint your face white, then some black to add facial hair -- like Mr. Hyde -- or some red coming from the corners of your mouth. If you are having a party indoors, paint your torso with stripes and your face with whiskers -- like a sort of lion.
- You have more versatility if you are dressing your baby or young toddler because you get to choose what will be worn. You could choose a scary theme, but this may seem a bit inappropriate because you probably don’t want your baby to look scary. If you do want an on-theme costume, you could choose a bug, or some sort of animal, or just a cute baby's costume. A bug costume is quite easy. You just use some cardboard to make wings, which you cover or color, then stick them to a costume. So, if your child is a bee, you make the costume out of strips of yellow and black. If he is a beetle, you need to make some cardboard legs and stick them to the black costume Also, color the legs black. A cute baby’s costume can be made from some silken material, and add some transparent wings made from clear plastic with a bit of cardboard for support. Remember to use caution when using plastic or similar materials near babies.
