- 1). Plant bromeliads in small pots with drainage holes. Bromeliads are native to the American rainforests, where they grow among orchids in trees and on the forest floor. Thus they do not require a heavy loam, but do better in lighter peat-based compost. Repotting is rarely necessary.
- 2). Place bromeliads in a warm location that is brightly lit, but out of direct sunlight. Bromeliads prefer temperatures above 75 degrees to flower, but can withstand temperatures of average warmth, not below 50 degrees.
- 3). Water bromeliads by filling the central vase formed by the foliage, keeping it filled. Empty and refill it every one to two months. Water compost only when it dries out, keeping it moist, but not soggy.
- 4). Mist leaves regularly in the summer. Occasionally, use diluted compost tea to mist with, as bromeliads naturally get nutrition through the leaves.
