- Released in June 2011, Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 is equipped with a spacious 10.1-inch screen, which is larger than the iPad 2's 9.7-inch screen. Like the iPad, the Tab comes with 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi network connectivity and a built-in camera. The Tab's 3-megapixel camera offers higher photographic resolution than the iPad, which features a 0.7-megapixel camera.
- LG's Optimus Pad, released in May 2011, comes with a 5-megapixel camera that, unlike the iPad, is capable of geotagging, a process that embeds map and GPS coordinate data into each image captured by the phone. The Optimus Pad also accesses the 2G and 3G networks and is Wi-Fi compatible. The tablet also features a secondary front-facing camera that gives the tablet videoconferencing capability, just as the iPad does.
- Released in April 2011, the BlackBerry PlayBook supports BlackBerry Messenger, the company's exclusive messaging application that comes with enhanced text, picture and video messaging features. The machine also features a 5-megapixel camera, which, like the iPad's camera, is capable of recording high-definition video. The unit is about 5.4 inches by 7.6 inches, making the screen size considerably smaller than that of the iPad or the Galaxy. The PlayBook is compatible with Wi-Fi and 2G networks, but is not able to connect to the 3G network.
- Another 2G and Wi-Fi network only device, the HP TouchPad tablet, released in July 2011, uses a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor that is capable of faster computing speeds than the iPad, which uses a 900 MHz processor. The Touch Pad offers a 9.7-inch touch-screen display. The unit measures 7.5 by 9.5 inches, and comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera that does not record video.
- Released in April 2011, the Asus EEE Pad Transformer supports up to 32GB of expanded memory, a feature that the iPad does not offer. The device connects to Wi-Fi and the 2G networks only. It features a 10.1-inch touch-screen display and a 5-megapixel camera that records video. The tablet also comes with a secondary, front-facing camera that gives you videoconferencing functionality. The Transformer can also geotag images.
- The HTC Flyer hit the market in May 2011 and uses a 1.5 GHz single core Snapdragon processor vs. the iPad 2's dual core A5 1GHz chip. The Flyer is capable of accessing the Internet through its 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi networking features. It has a 7-inch screen and comes with a 5-megapixel camera that records high-definition video, and a secondary camera for videoconferencing.
- Motorola's Xoom comes with a 10.1-inch screen that gives you more viewing space than the iPad. The Xoom also offers a 5-megapixel camera that is capable of recording high-definition video and is equipped with a secondary camera for videoconferencing functionality. The Xoom, released in May 2011, is compatible with 2G and Wi-Fi networking only.
