- Queen palm needs full sun and a well-drained, acid soil. In alkaline soils the tree suffers from severe mineral deficiencies that cause disfiguration and possibly death. It tolerates reflected heat well. Temperatures below 20 degrees Fahrenheit cause frond damage and the tree is slow to recover.
- Queen palms grow faster and look their best when they are watered regularly. Twice a month is sufficient for a mature tree. Queen palms are subject to micronutrient deficiencies. Use a special palm fertilizer twice a year according to package directions. Keep turf away from the trunk to prevent decay.
- Prune to remove fronds damaged by cold weather. Pruning off too many fronds at once damages the tree.
