- 1). Click the iTunes icon on your Mac's screen dock, or click "Start" on your Windows PC's taskbar, and move the mouse to "Programs" and "iTunes." Click the "iTunes" tab to run the program.
- 2). Plug the iPod cable into your computer's available USB port, and connect the iPod Shuffle to the dock connector.
- 3). Click the "iPod Shuffle" tab in the iTunes sidebar once your computer detects the device. For 1st and 2nd generation iPod Shuffles, click the "Settings" tab in the iTunes window, or or for 3rd generation iPod Shuffles click the "Summary" tab in the iTunes window.
- 4). Click the "Restore" button, and select "Use Same Version" on the dialog box. For Mac computers, enter your system administrator password to confirm the action, and click the "OK" button.
- 5). Wait for the restoration to complete, and follow the on-screen instructions in the iPod Setup Wizard to set up your iPod Shuffle as a new device and sync your information back to the iPod Shuffle.
