How to Locate the Oil Switch on My Cavalier Engine Block

    • 1). Open the driver's door on your Cavalier and pull the lever to engage the emergency brake. Turn off the ignition, and remove the key.

    • 2). Raise your Cavalier on the passenger's side just behind the front tire with a hydraulic jack. Set a jack stand beneath the frame railing on the left of the hydraulic jack for added support of the car.

    • 3). Slide under the car at the corner of the front bumper, directly in front of the passenger-side front tire. Locate your Cavalier's oil filter on the side of the engine block. Most filters are either white or orange, and they all look like a metal can. Look 2 inches to the left of the oil filter, where you will see two wiring harness plugs. The plug connected to the cylinder shaped component is your Cavalier's oil pressure switch.
