- Nancy Drew is a simple literary costume you may be able to pull together in minutes. Nancy always dressed very smartly, maybe in a plaid skirt and sweater with loafers. For a more traditional Nancy look, add a hat and some pearls. For a more updated look, a headband and glasses will work. Add knee socks to be extra cute. Nancy is always looking for clues so you may want to throw in a notebook and pen along with some sleuthing items such as a tape recorder and a magnifying glass.
- Though the movie was well loved, many people don't know that The Princess Bride is a book. There are costume options for both sexes including Westley, Inigo Montoya, Prince Humperdinck and The Princess Bride, Buttercup. Pull some basic pieces together that you may already have or that can be found at a thrift store, or rent the basis for a unique costume from a costume shop; don't forget to add little details such as swords, a tiara, eye patch or leather boots.
- Anne of Green Gables takes place in the early 1900s. Anne dresses like a prairie girl; long, dowdy dresses, lace up boots, stockings, and wide brimmed straw hats. She may wear a jumper of different colored material over her dress. Girls and women didn't show much skin in those days, so be conservative. Her hair is in braided pigtails in the movie versions as a girl, and pulled up into a bun as she grows into a woman.
- The book A Clockwork Orange is full of violence and adventure. The main character of the book is a young man named Alex. To achieve Alex's look, apply thick fake eyelashes to your right eye, throw on a black bowler hat, wear all white, carry a black round-headed cane and finish the look with some chunky black combat-style boots. Carry around a glass of milk and see how many people can guess who you are.
