In technical and trade schools, the average is lower at $50,770 annually, while those professors working either in business schools or in the industry of educational support services earn salary averages of $66,690 and $67,650 respectively. The highest paying state for English language professors was New York with a salary average of $85,190, followed by California at $83,430.

The pay scale ranged from $33,320 to $103,030, with the annual wage in the 25th percentile at $42,900, the annual wage in the 75th percentile at $77,600 and the median salary at $56,740.

Rhode Island had the highest salary average for foreign language professors at $89,180, followed by California at $80,320.
