Heart Icon in Status Update

Navigate your Web browser to facebook.com and log in with your username and password.

Click the "Share Status" field at the top of your browser window and type the status that you want to share. Type "<3" in the text box in the place where you would like a heart icon.

Press Enter. Facebook will publish your status to the news feed and will replace the <3 characters with a small red heart icon.

Heart Icon in Chat

Click the "Chat" tab in the bottom-right corner of the browser window and click a friend's name to open a Facebook Chat window.

Type a message to your friend. Type "<3" in the message to insert a heart icon.

Press Enter. When you send the message the <3 characters appear as a pink heart icon.
