How to Find Out If a Provider Blocks a Port

    • 1). Try using the port. If, for example, you want to know if port 80 is open, try browsing the Web. Use whatever program that is associated with the port. Look up a port list to find what programs use what port (see Resources).

    • 2). Call your Internet provider. The provider should be able to tell you which ports they block. Sometimes they block ports of known security problems and they may give you an alternate solution if you need the blocked port for acceptable reasons.

    • 3). Download and install software that searches ports (see Resources). Click on the program and it should test all of your ports and tell you if any are blocked.
